What is a warm intro, and how do you get one?
Warm intro
A warm intro is an introduction made by someone both people know and trust, used to reach an investor, a client or a hire who would ignore a cold message.
A warm intro is when a mutual contact introduces you to someone, usually by email, and vouches for you in a sentence or two. It is the opposite of a cold message, where you write to a stranger with no shared connection.
Investors, senior hires and busy clients answer warm intros far more often than cold outreach, because the introducer’s reputation comes attached. That is why founders spend so much of a raise mapping who knows whom.
The polite way to ask for one is the double opt-in: the introducer checks that the other person wants the introduction before making it, and you send a short note they can forward as it is.
